Sheikh Suhaib Webb is an American convert to Islam who has studied Islam deeply and is presently pursuing his studies further in Al-Azhar University. His perspective is of great importance to Western Muslims, and God willing, he will continue to bring great benefit in the coming years. Here, he responds to a questioner from Trinidad & Tobago who is considering embracing Islam but is worried about his same-sex attractions.

[See also: “Former Homosexual Wanting to Embrace Islam”]

I am not a Muslim but I met a guy who never drinks or wastes any of his time, which I found to be impressive. While talking to him I realized that he was a Muslim and I started studying the religion. The complications lie in the fact that I have feelings towards men. I know it is wrong. I consider it an abomination. I don’t need anyone to tell me how sinful it is. But I can’t help it. I can stay away from committing the act but the feelings are always there. After reading the other questions about gays on the site they do not help me much. I cannot ignore the feelings and get married. I do not feel any attraction towards women. I need some serious help.

What is your view on a non-practicing homosexual? The feelings exist but not the acts.

Salam, brother.

Thank you for your question and I hope my answer pleases Allah and is of benefit. I have divided this answer according to your question.

No One Is Free of Sin

Your question is one of great importance and reminds us, as a community, of our duty to support and assist those who are struggling with sin. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“Every son of Adam makes mistakes. But the best of those who make mistakes are those who repent.” (At-Tirmidhi)

In another hadith the Prophet said:

“If you failed to commit sins, then Allah would destroy you and create those who would sin and seek His forgiveness and He would forgive them.” (Muslim)

Thus, it is important to note that every one of us commits sins and falls into error.

The Message of Islam

Islam means submission and peace. Instead of original sin, Islam teaches that the nature of humanity is good. However, humans, since they were created as such, will make mistakes at times and struggle to overcome their lower desires. This is based on each person’s desire to serve or worship.

Instead of preaching that human nature is full of evil, Islam teaches that the nature of humanity is to worship. In the Qur’an we read what means:

*{And I (Allah) have not created Jinn and men except to worship Me.}* (Adh-Dhariyat 51:56)

Thus, our true nature is inclined to serve our Lord. However, there are times when that nature can be misdirected to things which are unbecoming of worship. False deities, fame, and success caused many people to slip and fall from the noble station that the Creator has given them. Thus, by submitting to something other than the true Creator and Sustainer of all, people will feel depressed, saddened, and lost.

To make this more clear, could you imagine if the power of the sun and rain were under different political powers? Wouldn’t there be unthinkable madness? Eluding to this the Qur’an says what means:

*{If there had been in them any gods except Allah, they would both have certainly been in a state of disorder; therefore glory be to Allah, the Lord of the dominion, above what they attribute (to Him).}* (Al-Anbiyaa’ 21:22)

Thus, if this is the case with nature, then what is the situation of people who try to serve many gods? What would be the outcome of trying to submit and worship many deities all having different agendas who, in reality, fail to posses the true qualities of the one Creator, the sole Ruler and Sustainer of the universe? The Qur’an says something very nice about this:

*{Allah sets forth an example: There is a slave in whom are (several) partners differing with one another, and there is another slave wholly owned by one man. Are the two alike in condition? (All) praise is due to Allah. Nay! most of them do not know.}* (Az-Zumar 39:29)

The Path of Submission Is the Key

Islam is a faith which serves as an alarm clock reminding the creation of their true purpose. It helps to focus the heart, discipline the mind, and perfect the morals and actions.

The outcome of such a submission is the dawn of a very special relationship between the Creator and the created. For one cannot develop a true relationship with another until the latter is acknowledged.

Thus, by knowing Allah and submitting to Him alone, one will truly feel the heavy shackles of sin lightened and escape from the dungeon that one’s soul had languished in.

*{There is no compulsion in religion; truly the right way has become clearly distinct from error; therefore, whoever disbelieves in the Shaitan and believes in Allah he indeed has laid hold on the firmest handle, which shall not break off, and Allah is Hearing, Knowing.}* (Al-Baqarah 2:256)

*{If one firmly believes in Allah, He will guide his heart.}* (At-Taghabun 64:11)

Faith First

Based on the above, my first advice to you would be to focus on understanding faith in Islam. Faith in Islam is not a mere spiritual exercise, but includes knowing faith, believing in it, and acting upon it.

Faith changes the human being’s entire persona. Its result is a person whose character, actions, and behavior are linked to a divine purpose. Thus, the person gains confidence and realizes the divine purpose behind his or her being.

It is through this faith that three important questions are realized:

1. Where have I come from?

2. Where am I going?

3. What is my purpose in life?

In order to understand this better, think of an organization with no mission statement. With faith you gain your mission statement and realize your purpose. Thus, you are able to build a framework that lays the foundation for a life connected to the Creator.

Thus, every act is done with sincere thought, and every thought is examined and touched by the light of faith. For this reason, you will have come to life. Life has a purpose; the shades of despair and sadness are cast away by the light of faith and happiness.

*{The blind and the seeing are not alike. Nor the darkness and the light, Nor the shade and the heat, neither are the living and the dead alike. Surely Allah makes whom He pleases hear, and you cannot make those hear who are in the graves.}* (Fatir 35:19-22)

*{Is he who was dead then We raised him to life and made for him a light by which he walks among the people, like him whose likeness is that of one in utter darkness whence he cannot come forth?}* (Al-An`am 6:122)

A Loving, Merciful Creator

Since we are bound to fall into error, it is important to remember that our Creator is an understanding and loving Lord. This mercy and understanding are exhibited by the following:

Allah is ready to forgive. One of the great bounties that Allah has bestowed upon His servants is forgiveness for evil thoughts and actions that are not acted upon. When the following verse of Qur’an was sent, the Companions of the Prophet were greatly disturbed.

*{If you reveal what’s in your hearts, or hide it, Allah will call you to account.}* (Al-Baqarah 2:284)

Finally, they went to the Prophet complaining, “If we are called to account for the whispers of our souls, then we will surely perish!” (Ibn Kathir).

Suddenly, Allah revealed:

*{Allah does not burden a soul more than it can bear.}* (Al-Baqarah 2:286)

It is one of the great mercies of Allah that we are not called to account for the evil inclinations that appear in our hearts. And, in fact, such evil inclinations if ignored and not acted upon can bear sweet fruit!

Fighting against evil inclinations brings one closer to Allah. Many times we find evil thoughts and ideas coming to our minds. However, if not acted upon, such thoughts can actually be a means of drawing closer to our Lord. The Prophet said:

Whosoever intends to do a good deed but does not do it, Allah records it with Himself as a complete good deed; but if he intends it and does it, Allah records it with Himself as ten good deeds, up to seven hundred times, or more than that. But if he intends to do an evil deed and does not do it, Allah records it with Himself as a complete good deed; but if he intends it and does it, Allah records it as one single evil deed. (Muslim)

Thus, by fighting oneself and struggling to obey the Creator, one draws nearer to Him. Although this might seem monumental, struggling and striving towards the Divine requires only a sincere heart and obedience to His commands. In a sound hadith, we read that the Prophet said the following:

Allah the Almighty says: “I am as My servant thinks I am. I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself. And if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assembly better than it. And if he draws near to Me a hand’s span, I draw near to him an arm’s length. And if he draws near to Me an arm’s length, I draw near to him a fathom’s length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed.” (Al-Bukhari)

Points to Remember

Thus, drawing near to Allah by doing good actions and struggling with oneself brings great spiritual and physical blessings. However, there are a few important points to remember:

Personal responsibility. Keep in mind that all of the above requires work and determination on your part. You are responsible for yourself and must struggle against evil thoughts and desires. I would encourage you to strongly think about submitting to your Creator and learning the correct practices associated with the Islamic faith.

The great Muslim scholar and imam Ibn Al-Qayyim said:

Unlawful desires are usually associated with ugliness. They leave behind a lingering sensation of pain and guilt. Hence, whenever you are tempted, think about liberating yourself. Think about all the remorse that would accompany the realization of those desires, and then make up your mind. Struggling your way through obedience is not an easy task. It is, however, associated with goodness and soothing pleasures. Whenever you overburden yourself (with unlawful desires) think about how nice it would be to repent and set yourself free. Think about the pleasures that lawful desires will provide and try to make the correct choice. The dilemma you will experience should be reduced by remembering the sweet pleasure and the ultimate happiness that your obedience (to Allah) will provide. Logically, your mind should opt for the more rewarding option and help you to endure the pain of denying yourself the realization of such desires.” (Al-Fawa’id)

Communal Responsibility. It is never enough to struggle alone. The whole community must begin to answer the call of those who are struggling with different issues. Our community is not free of drugs, abuse, and other different types of negative behavior. However, we have not admitted that these problems exist. Thus, we are impotent when it comes to handling such issues.

We must reflect on the statements of the Prophet “Give glad tidings and don’t cause others to flee” (Muslim) and “Whoever removes a difficulty for a person, Allah will remove a difficulty for that person on the Day of Reckoning” (Al-Bukhari).

Muslim imams should be trained in counseling and, better yet, each community should have its own group of professional counselors. We can no longer turn away from the struggling sinner, but must reach out with a sincere hand and walk with our brothers and sisters through the difficulties that they face.

Finally, I pray that you can find a community leader who will be willing to sit with you and assist you through these difficulties. You are not alone and only need a mature community leader who will be willing to accept you and help you overcome your problems.

In the meantime, I would highly recommend a web site run by NARTH (National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality). They are a group of professionals who offer counseling to those who are struggling to fight the whispers of homosexuality. I pray for you and hope to hear from you again. I will be very happy to be of any assistance to you in the future.

Please keep in touch.

Hi. I had not understood until your post that a primary difference between Islam and Christianity was the differing belief about original sin and inborn goodness.

Why this seems important to me is twofold:

Muslims see children as good creatures that make mistakes and spend a lifetime struggling to overcome their natural tendencies to sin, ever failing and never coming to an inner peace over the matter, awaiting the judgement of Allah.

Christians see children born with a sinful nature, ever failing to overcome this condition and only coming to an inner peace through a personal relationship, admission of this sinful condition with repentance and accepting the free gift of eternity with God through Jesus sacrifice.

For the Christian, believing ones works of “goodness” are as filthy rags to God and that man is unable to please God through outward action, the struggle and failure cycle is ended. Instead, in gratefulness for the salvation that the believer receives, Godly acts of all kinds are comitted.

Do Muslims have any access to inner peace apart from the deliberate choices to constrict ones activity regarding “ungodly” things and perpetually self punish any failings to perfectly enact a pious life?

I particularly liked your point about personal responsibility..after all, every action anyone of us takes is a choice and all of life is a series of choices.

You seem like a sincere, responsible person..a breath of fresh air compared to those of your faith who get the ear of world media.

Thanks for your work here.

Hi ICPS,
In Islam we believe in repentance…meaning that we can ask for forgiveness directly from God for the sins that we commit. We also believe in faith and good actions but at the end of the day it is only through God’s mercy that we would actually be admitted into Heaven…faith and good action, if sincerely done, would prove us worthy of God’s mercy. Even after all this, there are people that God will take out of Hell and place in Heaven simply out of His mercy. In Islam God is Merciful and His mercy overshadows his wrath. I pray that you will spend more time studying the faith itself instead of depending on the media…It might give you some good ideas for your blog 🙂

In the name of the most merciful our lord Allah of all the creation and all of the worlds, the most loving and most “wisest”. Blessings be upon us all ameen. we are all in different shades and different colours.of different looks and differnt desires individual emotions,we are always searching and in need of stability, love, status, etc…we live in one world but play a part in humanity,in ways only the lord knows best. when the lord made life before the world was created, there was no original sin.the lord is pure and sin came through Iblees (satan) when he “MISUNDERSTOOD” the lords most “WISEST” command,as the “LOVING” lord was testing his obediance and his faith.Iblees became furious with rage and as anger is a “natural” emotion,as some would say,its what anger can lead to if not controlled, where the consequences lie.”DESTRUCTION OF SELF AND LIFE”. Iblees has been granted life till end of times,as the lord is most “JUSTICE”, and “WISE”, we cannot question his authority.Everything the lord has created has not been created without purpose or without reason, and as the lord is most merciful he gave every life he created a chance to repent and surrinder to Him,in all humility to then worship him alone, and follow his commands and follow the guided ways of our last messenger Muhammad s.a.w.Everything the lord has created is a “muslim”,the birth right,we are blessed with his infinite love and mercy.Sadly it is trickery of Iblees that has blinded mankinds vision to accept the truth, and to not accept the lords unconditional love of accepting islam as our salvation our “ONE UNITED DESTINATION”. We are all individually tested to our own unique emotions, but life is a test to sometimes fight with our inner conflicts, and that is when we reach our destined goal.Mankind was made as a “natural PRESERVER of life”.We do not just care for ourselves as muslims we are here to preserve the whole of life of mankind,”as one body of a human.” from decay and “EXTINCTION”.we as humans can never accept “false” emotions, false friends……Then why should we accept FALSEHOOD and fake ideas of making life??? why choose to live without the lords ways and play with innocence, taking their birth rights away…..for jusst the way “OUR CHOICES ARE MADE FOR JUST OUR LIVES”? “A mother,a daughter,a sister, like nature shes the earth.Giver a nurturer,a provider of life. Her depths her wisdom you will not able to understand, because todays woman is crying out loud.”NATURE GONE WRONG”. Polluted and abused, like floods and droughts, volcanos and tornados, disasters and disease.Destruction and devastation…….”YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR GOOD NATURE”. Do not confuse them by your self-fulfilling ways. Do not change them, from societies oppressive ways.Hear them, believe in them and gently care.Do not destroy “our mankind”. To give is to sacrifice,to cover her is to protect, women from harm because the opposites attract, different minds of differnt sex,you have differnt effects. The beauty is in a woman she gets abused and used untill, she to you does not attract. The everlasting beauty lays within.Women, we should fight for our rights and be understood,to show we are gentle and yet very strong with confidance be proud.MAKE MEN REALISE WE MEAN “RESPECT”. A woman is equal to a man, show her respect she does deserve. The skies and earth the opposite ends.Even nature has worked so you can compare, the only difference is the earth is weak.Sky is not abused it lays very high……………YOU CAN NOT TURN THE EARTH INTO THE SKY!!!!!!!!!! May the lord Allah, bless us all with his infinite love and mercy, and our mankind unite in peace and harmony,as one body one soul AMEEN.

4. SHABAN - March 9, 2007

Assalamu alaikum

May i just point out that, although Allah has agreed to let Iblees live till end of time.It was only agreed because of the extensive worship that Iblees had done prior to him becoming the devil. As too much knowledge he also became very proud. This is why its a sin being proud and arrogance as it leads mankind awy from the truth of why we worship our lord in the first place.

Aswell as mankind being tested through the desires and temptations of the whisperings of Iblees,it may be a point to consider that, when Allah verily loves those who constantly repent and purify themselves
throug purifying from our sins we gain real knowledge,so are we mankind also here as test for the devil himself,so he may learn through mankinds “strength” in his iman and belief in the most kindest lord, that he may actually shamefully “learn” his “mistakes”?,

Rather then blaming our wonderful creator, for putting in us these emotions and desires,of wanting or loving what we cannot have, try and be posotive about the most loving most merciful most wise Allah, for Allah tests those to great levels who he loves the most. The lord works in mysterious ways.It could be you the very people that are going through this inner conflict,I CALL IT JIHAAD.ofcourse its must be the hardest struggle of your lives to still be true to Allah, but you might be defeating the devil himself.(MAY ALLAH FORGIVE ME IF I MAKE MISTAKES IN MY EXPLANATION). The lord is the greatest and has mercy for all that he creates. You must gain knowledge in special ares tht noone caould learn,in return you help in the salvation of mankind, that the Iblees is trying so hard to destroy.

Makes one think why its only Iblees that lives till end of time, when mankind comes and goes????

the world and mankind is going to unite and the lords kingdom will Insha Allah prevail on earth, like predicted, when no one shall be killed, and no wars will remain.

The gift of power we were given was “prayers”, lets all unite and pray for the end of all evil Insha Allah AMEEN.

Wasalaam.

if all was made for a purpose then what was purpose of iblees? can anyone think of a noble cause (compatible with the almighty) as to why the evil creature was made?

6. SHABAN - March 26, 2007

Bismillah irahma nirahim.

Assalamu alaikum

Iblees (satan) was not made evil from Allah s.w.t,he was given free will,to think to do,and he failed the test.Iblees misunderstood Allahs infinite mercy and love,so challenged Allah by becoming evil.My understanding is,because mankind came on earth, after losing paredise through sin, could it be that we are tested through bad and good, but could we mankind also be a test for iblees? especialy the good muslims that he cannot take over,so Allah is forever showing him signs to surrender his evils.could it be at the time when heaven is made on earth and the devil loses his kingdom, because mankind will defeat him.We need to become the one body of muslim first, and let Allah guide us to make peace all over the world.

was that not mankinds purpose in life? TO DEFEAT THE DEVIL,AND MAKE HIM SURRENDER TO ALLAH,BY TEACHING HIM HIS WAYS ARE WRONG,AND WE DO NOT ACCEPT HIS EVIL TEMPTATIONS AND WE ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY ARE LIVES AND THIS WORLD!!!!!

EVERY LIVING THING HUMAN AND JINN,WERE MADE FOR ONE PURPOSE,THAT PURPOSE WAS TO OBEY ONLY ALLAH,AND BEFORE TIME ENDS FOR THIS WORLD,LETS ALL PRAY THAT IBLEES DOES LEARN AND ACCEPT THAT HE WAS NEVER ALLAH.I CAN ONLY COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT,THATS WHEN HEAVEN AND TRUE PEACE WILL COME ON EARTH.

MAY ALLAH FORGIVE ME IF I HAVE SAID ANYTHING WRONG,BUT MY THOUGHTS ARE FOR THE SAKE OF ALL EVIL TO END COMPLETLY,JUST AS ALLAH FIRST MADE EVERYTHING ALL GOOD.

“Misunderstandings are roots to all that is evil,
we do not misunderstand others, but misunderstand ourselves,
then destroy all that we had!”

WASALAAM

7. SHABAN - March 26, 2007

Bismillah irahma nirahim

Assalamu alaikum

“verily Allah loves those, who constantly repent and purify themselves”

to be able to conquer and to know how the devil works,is to gain real knowlege,”after” we have sinned and when we feel humility and repent, for our Allah is most merciful and wise,

we as muslims are here to teach others, when we have kowledge we then make sense, and help others not to make the same mistakes.

mankind is not perfect,we were made to make mistakes, but knowledge is power, the power to get rid of evil, and make goodness,
after we have learned, after we fall, after our pain and our loss, even that is the infinite mercy and love of Allah in our lives.but we need to first believe in our hearts that Allah our only lord is the most loving the most merciful, the most beneficial for our lives. He is always there to help us become stronger after we fall.MANKIND IS WLLING TO LEARN AND ACCEPTS,UNLIKE THE DEVIL,HE IS FOREVER LOST,BUT HE CAN NEVER INFLUENCE THE LOVING THINKING MAN,BECAUSE THE THINKING MAN WILL CARE NOT JUST FOR HIMSELF,BUT THE LIVES OF OTHERS AND THE WORLD AROUND HIM.AND KNOWS THAT HE WILL GET HIS REWARD FOR HIS SACRIFICES IN HEREAFTER,WHICH IS ETERNAL HAPPINESS,AND IN ALLAH HE PUTS HIS COMPLETE TRUST.A MUSLIMS WORKS TO BRING ALLAHS LAWS AND HIS WAYS INTO THIS WORLD.BECAUSE A TRUE MUSLIM WILL LOVE MANKIND FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAH.

WASALLAM

8. Jibrail - July 23, 2007

I am gay because I like guys. I have done it some more. But I know Allah loves me and always wants to forgive me. I try not to feel and do it. This is life. Sometimes you are able to give up your same sex sexual passion but there are also times when you failed. When I failed Allah is always there to forgive me. I don’t need intercession. Just me and Allah alone and we’re done. Allah is the symbol of true love. Allah loves me and I know HE does.

9. Rasheed Eldin - July 23, 2007

Jibrail, a true Muslim lives a balance between hope and fear. He hopes in Allah’s mercy, but doesn’t go to the extreme of complacency. He fears Allah’s punishment, but doesn’t go to the extreme of despair.

I feel a strong sense of complacency from your message, as if you can do whatever you want and Allah will forgive you. What makes you sure of this? Perhaps you need to spend more time with the Qur’an to understand that there is a Hellfire that we could fall into if we don’t keep striving and repenting.

I notice another brother has quoted the verse “Verily Allah loves those who constantly repent and He loves those who purify themselves.” Yes, and there are categories of people He does not love, even if they profess Islam.

We need to be sincere to Him and keep away from what He prohibited. This is nothing to do with “intercessors”. May Allah help you.

Salam Samia, we suggest you direct your question to a scholar or website specialising in fatwas, as at this site we merely discuss issues related to sexuality and avoid issuing rulings on specifics.

11. Hamdullah - February 16, 2011

11. Hamdullah – February 16, 2011

A Letter with intention of comfort…not more not less…

Assalamualaikum, sorry first i am german (in Berlin) for my english,
i give permission for every body to get it right…

al hamdullillah i entered islam through sufi ways, and the miracle that i stayed in islam is that since 30 years i got for anything not just a theoretique answer from books, but through my teacher or may say Sheich, teachings to percive…through deepest reflection facing realties, fallings , faliures….

In fact i have got 5 good childrens i am proud of, on one side, with two ex wifes,
on the other side i am so tiered dont want any mor give pain to one of our sisters beeing married to me, and i mean i realy feel the pain….this is the point outside from my person, the fact that i dont desire the body of a woman…which a woman of cause feels after some time.
It does exactly not mean, that i could not be tender, or kind, yes even give pleasure to my wife`s body, out of my tast of love i had throuigh my daily practice, but i was not driven by desire for her body….i know for a lot of couples this desire is exactly the key moment in difficult relationship situations to find back together again,to seal the relationship, we are humans, disire like hunger before we eat….

So this is one side, the other is the trouble we all have, we desire what according what we understand, we should not desire.
After 30 years hard driving through life with this delemmer i reached a state, were i am happy, but i could not call any body to follow and to be successful, as one big part was our tarecat(sufi order) and my Sheich`s accompany, and so so so many dark, havy, painfull , doubt, lonly, lost, extradited vallys to go through…. unlimited vally oceans it seemed to be sometimes.

The key point is you can not take one side away without filling it with something else. The strictness towards our disires must be balanced with perciving his mercy. This is the progress cheme of sufism, reducing the domination of nafes not just by ristriction, but by balancing the balance with the perseption of a state of our lord.

As an example, got a situation with 3 smal childrens and every monther knows they can realy bring you to the limit of pations, in the moment loosing our pations we may surrender quickly to sabur, the unlimited pations of our lord, so simple just by repeating and remembering this reality of this name, ya sabur, ya sabur, ya sabur…

Yes it is a kind of brain washing, conditioning our brain and hard towards his reality.

Everybody may have experienced, you buy a car, lets say a polo volkswagen, ons a sudan driving through the streets it feels as if so many polos driving arround, our brain starts to persive what it did not persive before, but the same amount of polos was always there,

The sabur, pations of our lord is always there but we dont persive it.
To come back to our point it means, all what we get through folow our “wrong” desire, the sweetness, ….you know better, just to have the dream boy on your side for ever, can only be taken away if you manage to fill the gab with some thing much more stronger, i mean you persive the buitifull boy but do you persive as strong the beauty of our lord, if now in this moment this boy would stand naked in front of your praying carpet, would you smile with an open hard, but not be carried away because you persive your lord much more than this boy out of flesh and blood…

There are destinations, people are blind, they find a way to balance by there ears or other senses, somebody does not have a leg, he may balance, but it is true after 30 years i beleave the handycap, not to be able to desire a women is different, that means the most difficult thing, i kind of lonlyness in this world, not to have a human beeing deeply on our side, even not to dream and hope for what our lord granted most of humans to find comfort and deepest plesure…..whooooo,… “…fa be aiy allah he rabbi ku ma to cathiban…”, suratul rachman, do you want to deny the goodness(you may translate better) of the lord…are we perciving this goodness of our lord so strong, that that boy is not carrying us away, our hope and dream and desire for such a boy or person…

No, we may need to accept, we are weak, and be prepeared for most difficult states and moods by trying to achieve to overcome…sorry i cant say different…

But of cause if you reach this pleasure, its beyond of what anybody in this world may percive, even those who desire women….to percive in every single breath, in every single second, in every single hard beeping, even our life would last only one minute, more than what many may never percive in hole life, the miracle/goodness of our Lord, and is so so so sweet, and unlimited pleasurefull…but its a long long way to go, but sorry not to become racist, just a kindly joke to the end, you are americans, used to long ways in your big country…
These words can only discribe, and are limited, it could fill books, but may be you got some comfort and some direction, from “tassawoof” which is also part of islam.

If we just accept our weak situation, there might be at least things, verry practical, to limit the effect on our spirituel state, not as rule but it may help:
Be a little bit crazy at least, take always first shower for example before doing it again, i mean in that moment…do sadjda, bismillah allah hu akbar, just next to the bed on floor after, doesnt matter what your friend thinks ,confirm urself: Allah hu Akbar , he is bigger than our doings, bad or good…if intersted i may say more, just be honest, struggle to keep contact with your hope in him, be creative….he does not need ours but we need our hope in him, so what ever helps for that

Hamdullah, yes its my name i got new before 30 years, so happy in my hard, more like having won biggest lotterie jack pot.
