From Rolled-up Trousers:

Pakistanis and Egyptians google "sex" more than anyone else. And Iran, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Turkey are in the top 10.

gay.com report that Muslim countries are also the biggest googlers of "gay sex".

How do you explain this?!

It goes to show that the problem is present. We can no longer ignore it!!!

what do you mean how to explain it? You explain it by saying that all the sermons and hatred in the world won’t stop people from having homosexual feelings. It’s a fact of life and has been for thousands of years.

The real “homophobia” started with Europe, who looked down on Muslims for their liberal attitudes toward homosexuality. Now they’ve convinced us that the hatred for all things homosexual are natural to Muslims and so many Muslims have bought into the false idea that homosexuality is “Western”.

You got here via Google, right? 😛

I don’t know about your emotional make-up, but my attitude towards homosexuality and homosexuals isn’t primarily characterised by hatred.

Do you realise, when you write the word “hatred” there, that you are as guilty of using buzz-words and My-Side terminology as the imam who calls homosexuals “vile” and “deviant”? Both sides might be justified in using the words, but they are also immediate barriers to dialogue. (Hey I’m not saying I’m free of such things either, but at least I know their place!)

Besides, never mind sermons, what about the Qur’an? As you may have noticed, I don’t think much of the “reinterpretations” going on in the name of desires.

As for whether “homophobia” (of course another buzz-word) started in Europe – no, it started in Sodom with the Prophet Lut (peace be on him).

Oh wow, yet another enlightened soul tries to teach us about history. Where are your sources?

OMG…arabic the language of the Holy Kuran lead the ranking for language…sad but true, thx Rasheed for the post…Hope it will open up the mind of Muslim scholar, Agree with Yousef, no more ignorance!

Have you read Said’s “Orientalism”?! If you want to ask about my sources, start by learning about Western attitudes toward the “Orient”, and their imperial opinions about our sexualities.

Interesting that you used the word “enlightened” to mock me, is that supposed to be irony? I’m not here to impart some sort of saviour mentality to bring “savages” to “civilization”. Maybe you have mistaken me for some white liberal? No, I’m a Muslim, an Arab, a Palestinian and a homosexual. I have something invested in ensuring that I don’t constantly fear the loss of my community of because of some Crusader’s brainwashing.

As for “buzzwords” – I’ll take that over the obscure objective of this website. Having read through it, what are your intentions if not to demonize and mock homosexual Muslims? Although you are “polite” enough to use the veneer of compassion, your numerous commentaries point to something quite different.

Look again at your pronouns – to whom do you direct each of your replies? I will only reply to your last paragraph because you have referred back to my comment.

Hey, I won’t judge your intentions if you don’t judge mine. How do you define “homosexual Muslims”? I may demonise the demons and mock the mock-worthy, but at least read and be fair. And where you disagree, feel free to leave enlightened comments.

8. Yousef - June 9, 2006

The bottom line is whether acting on homosexual attractions is allowed islamically or not. My comment, in case you didn't notice (I don't know how you can't) was a sarcastic one (certainly not ironic).

To be honest it doesn’t come as a great surprise. People will always search out and satisfy their curiosity for all things which are kept from them. It’s human nature.
